Jin Shares Sadness Through New Song

Ahead of his 28th birthday on Friday, BTS member Jin shared a surprise with the world on Thursday night when he released the song Abyss, a meaningful tune about his relationship with his art.

Jin wrote Abyss alongside Bumzu – a producer who frequently works with boy band Seventeen – as well as with fellow BTS member RM and long-time collaborator Pdogg.

When he shared the song on the BTS’ Twitter page, he linked to both SoundCloud and a blog post in which he shares his thoughts on the sweet, reflective ballad.

In a letter to
BTS’ fandom, known as Army
, Jin recalled how he recently told a press conference that he felt he could share his feelings of sadness with fans through music, and how this song grew out of him questioning whether he was worthy of congratulations after
BTS hit No 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with

Dynamite

over the summer
.

“To be honest, I recently felt really burnt out. I think it was because I had a lot of thoughts about myself,” he wrote, according to a translation by South Korean portal Soompi. “I was congratulated by many people after reaching No 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, but I wondered if it’s really OK for me to receive something like that.

“There are honestly a lot of people who love music more than me and are better at music than me, so is it OK for me to be feeling this happiness and being congratulated like this? That’s what I thought about, and going further into that made me feel troubled, so I wanted to lay everything down.”

K-pop Song For The Covid-19 Pandemic

Our lives may have been turned upside down this year because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, but K-pop stars have kept releasing new material, including songs that touch on living in the coronavirus era.

Tomorrow X Together: We Lost the Summer

In this sprightly tune from TXT's latest EP, "Minisode1: Blue Hour", out this week, the members sing about the lost summer of 2020, bemoaning the state of the world that kept them from enjoying the season and the missed opportunities for summer love.

"The cafe that I went to has now closed (and how) / I hide my sigh behind this stuffy mask (remaining here) / I hate my face without expression (you know)," members Taehyun and Soobin sing on the track.

BTS' J-hope 100 million Won Donation

SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- J-hope, a member of popular K-pop band BTS, donated 100 million won (US$84,416) for children suffering economic hardship due to the new coronavirus pandemic, a charity group said Tuesday.

According to ChildFund Korea, J-hope expressed hope that his donation will be delivered to children in crisis, especially to those who are experiencing economic difficulties amid the pandemic.

J-hope has contributed 450 million won through the charity since 2018 as a member of Green Noble Club, a group of high-value donors of ChildFund Korea.

He donated 150 million in 2018 to the charity to support children with illnesses and foster talent.

In 2019, he donated 100 million won to low-income students at his old high school in Gwangju, some 330 kilometers south of Seoul, and another 100 million won to children with illnesses.

"We express our deep gratitude to J-hope, a member of worldwide act BTS, for his consistent donations as well as his remembrance of children who are economically challenged," said Lee Je-hoon, the chairman of the charity, adding his group will work hard to support children in need.

JYJ's Park Yoo Chun Accused of Rape

Kpop group JYJ’s Park Yoochun has been sued for allegedly raping a woman in the bathroom of an 'adult entertainment establishment' on June 10.

According to Koreaboo, the woman, Lee, who claims to have been raped by Yoochun is a 24-year-old waitress who works there. The person who submitted the legal accusation against Yoochun was her boyfriend.

Lee’s boyfriend stated, “On the night of the 3rd, Yoochun came to the establishment as a customer and she was forcefully raped in a bathroom at the store.”

The boyfriend also submitted her underwear and clothes that she was wearing at the time as evidence. The police have stated that they are still waiting to hear the story from both sides.

Yoochun’s side have denied all allegations stating, “This is a false one sided accusation that is aimed at financial gain.”

His agency official revealed, “Even if he suffers damage to his image we don’t want to get involved in such business. I told them (Lee’s side) that this is the last time I’ll talk to them.”

Gangnam police have stated that they will study the evidence provided by Lee’s side and the CCTV footage before summoning to question Yoochun.

Rain Puts Family First

Did Kpop idol Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) rank his girlfriend below his family?

According to Koreaboo, he expressed an interesting revelation during his ongoing tour around Asia.

On June 6, Rain performed for his fans in Macau, China as part of his concert tour and was asked about the most important thing in his life.

The singer and actor replied, “The most important in my life is my family, second is my girlfriend, and third is my company president.”

The singer and actor is currently dating actress Kim Tae Hee.

Rain and Kim Tae Hee have been dating for the past three years and has recently shut down rampant speculations of them tying the knot soon.

Rain Reigned Supreme

It was a wet Saturday night for Korean superstar Rain. Barely 15 minutes into the two-hour concert, the dancer, singer and actor, was already drenched in sweat.

Performing the Malaysian leg of his worldwide Rain: The Squall Tour 2016 at the Arena Of Stars, Genting Highlands last weekend, the buff 33-year-old stormed the stage with a vengeance. Happy to be back, he showed why “Rain’s reign” is far from over despite the K-pop scene being flooded with younger heartthrobs, hungry for global domination.

The Squall Tour was Rain’s first concert tour since completing his compulsory military service in 2013. With seven albums under his belt, he made up for lost time, performing 23 of his biggest hits including Hip Song, Running Away From The Sun, Love Song, Bad Guy, It’s Raining, and of course, Rainism!

Hot on the heels of the tour which kicked off last November in China, his latest Korean drama series, Please Come Back, Mister, began airing in February. Before stopping by here, Rain showered fans in Changsha, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Hong Kong, with some hip-thrusting, crotch-grabbing, love.

His energetic moves, while not as fluid as the King of Pop’s, were a less-than-subtle ode to his idol, Michael Jackson. The MJ influence – think knee pads, white jacket and hat – was also noted in the costumes.

Appearing initially in an anatomy-inspired white and silver suit, Rain looked more comfortable dancing in his white tank top for most of the show. Five costume changes through the night saw him taking on different roles, including a dapper-looking gentleman in a black tailored suit, a bad boy in a leather jacket and aviator shades, and a cool cat clad in matching gold-sequinned sleeveless, cap and boots. He needn’t have bothered because judging from the screams and squeals, the tank top was the obvious fan favourite.

Don’t let the cute act fool you, under that suit is one macho physique.

Sadly, unlike their counterparts, his Malaysian fans were deprived of a shirtless show. The much-anticipated water effect of Rain, singing in the rain – was also missing but I suspect the crowd was more upset at having to settle for the modest view of him in a singlet.

Crowned one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world in 2006, Rain sure knows how to milk his assets. Wagging his finger and apologising for raining on their parade, he told the packed arena that going shirtless was a “no-no”. But, that didn’t stop him from teasing them throughout the night. After close to an hour of him toying with his jacket and their eagerness, the wait finally paid off – well, almost.

The big moment came at 9.45pm, when clad in a simple black tee, he ripped the collar mid-song, revealing perfect pecs and a chiselled chest. The only sight of him shirtless was in the videos flashing on screen. But that was enough to invite thunderous claps and adoring whistles from an audience that represented every generation.

The man is a consummate performer. With the show starting only 20 minutes later than scheduled, Rain is among the more punctual and hardworking acts to have landed here. A global star no doubt, but the man had no qualms walking down from the stage to high-five the lucky ones up front.

While the costumes were glam and the backdrop jaw-dropping with its flashing images of everything from cutesy childhood photos to stormy skies and angry seas, it was his performance that stood out the most. Like a squall sweeping through, Rain’s energy, charisma and powerful vocals are why he’s Asia’s most recognisable name. Heck, even his dancers had trouble keeping up!
