Hong Kong entertainment legend in
the 90s Ng Man Tat (吳孟達) has pass away from liver cancer 6
days ago. His performance together with his best partner in movie Stephen Chow
(周星馳) is unmatched anywhere in the Hong
Kong entertainment universe today. Almost a week has passed but I still can't
believe this fantastic actor who has brought us tremendous joy during the peak
of his career has finally left us.
We will forever miss him!
Like most Hong Kong celebrities during his time, Ng started his career on TV shows at TVB. The Hong Kong Television giant recently released a video paying tribute to this movie legend.
Malaysian talented musician/ singer Namewee has won a fifth award for
his Getaway to Kaohsiung music video at the Arpa International Film Festival.
That same video has last won two awards at the 41st Annual Telly
Awards last year.
Namewee (his real name is Wee Meng Chee) said this was the fifth award
received by the video.
During the Telly Awards, the video bagged the Gold Winner under the
Online — General Music Video category, and Silver Winner under the Television —
General Music Video category.
Tourism Malaysia’s video, Discover Breathtaking Malaysia, had won the
silver award for Non-Broadcast under the Travel/Tourism category.
Namewee posted on his Facebook page and described it as his best Chinese
New Year gift.
“This is the fifth award received by the video. Initially when I did
this song, I just wanted to help promote Kaohsiung’s tourism. It did not cross
my mind that it would garner such a huge response.”
The music in this video is somewhat different from Namewee’s usual
provocative style. Instead it has soothing melody with creative shooting of his
journey at the back of a truck passing through some of Kaohsiung’s iconic
streetscape. It is simply a beautiful video suitable for the entire family to
watch.
Arpa International Film Festival is dedicated to cultivating cultural
understanding and global empathy by creating a dynamic forum for international
cinema.
Last year, Namewee’s film Babi received nominations at the Berlin
International Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival, Toronto
International Film Festival and the Golden Horse Award.
Internet celebrity Uncle Roger recently got himself into trouble after
his video featured another YouTube star who has been vocal in his criticism of
the Chinese government. Uncle Roger subsequently remove the video from the
internet.
Critics had accused Uncle Roger – he is a Malaysian comedian and his real
name is Nigel Ng, of bowing down to pressure from China last week after a video
he made with vlogger Mike Chen from the Strictly Dumpling channel was removed
from his YouTube channel.

In a new video posted to YouTube on January 16, Uncle Roger clarified:
"I hate drama ... I just want to make funny vigeos (he means videos).”
"I don't want to be involved in anything else - no politics, no
drama. Uncle Roger love making people laugh. It's about entertaining people, no
matter where they come from, and respecting everyone's culture.”
"For the record, Uncle Roger make zero dollars from Chinese
social media so to see my nieces and nephews say I like RMB more than MSG
really break Uncle Roger’s heart." RMB is an acronym for renminbi, China's
currency - also called the yuan.
Uncle Roger also addressed his critics on Instagram, posting:
"I'm not bowing down to anyone. Especially not to all the hate comments
I'm getting. So if you're thinking of sending me nasty things, save your time
and just hit the unfollow button."
The whole drama began last week when a video entitled "Uncle
Roger Reviews Ugliest Dumpling Ever" was removed by Uncle Roger himself,
who said was not aware of Mike Chen's political leanings nor his previous criticism
about the Chinese government when he collaborated with the food vlogger. He
admitted on Weibo - China's Twitter - that the video had created a "bad
social impact".
"My staff and I would like to express our sincerest apologies to
everyone," Nigel Ng said. "Considering the seriousness of this issue
and the negative impact of the video itself, we discussed internally and
decided to take it down from all platforms."

Nigel Ng shot to fame last year when a video he posted to YouTube
criticising a BBC recipe for egg fried rice went viral. It was the right timing
as the entire world went into lock down when Covid-19 pandemic hit.
Another celebrity down with Covid-19. This time is the Indonesia-based
Malaysian-born actor Aliff Ali Khan who is reported to be in a critical condition.
Aliff has been receiving treatment at Wisma Atlet Hospital in Jakarta.
Aliff is the younger brother of Indonesia-based Miller Khan, who
recently won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Asian Academy Creative
Awards (AACA) 2020.
Aliff’s lawyer Asgar Sjarfi was quoted as saying that the artist has
not shown any encouraging signs although he has been receiving treatment for
the past three weeks.
Asgar also noted that Aliff is currently on a ventilator.
“His condition worsened after three weeks of isolation at Wisma Atlet
Hospital.
“At the same time, Aliff faced pressure due to the divorce case
process with his ex-wife Aska Ongi which is still ongoing,” he added.
Although Asgar was in touch with Aliff during the first week of his
admission to the hospital, he said now that the actor no longer replies
messages.
Visitors are not allowed at the hospital.
Aliff followed his brother’s footsteps and made the move to Indonesia
to pursue his acting career.

Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou's Carnival World Tour — Kuala Lumpur has been postponed indefinitely.
In a post via its official Facebook page, TicketCharge said the concert that was slated for January 16 next year at Bukit Jalil National Stadium will be rescheduled following government regulations and travel restrictions.
It stated that the new date will be announced in early January 2021.
The concert was originally scheduled for February 29 but was later pushed to August due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Responding to queries from fans, the company said refund details will be updated early next month.
Carnival World Tour is Chou's eighth concert tour to celebrate the multi award-winning singer’s 20 years in the music business.
Chou last performed in Malaysia in January 2018, before returning again in October to accompany his wife Hannah Quinlivan, who was shooting a movie on location here.
SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- J-hope, a member of popular K-pop band BTS, donated 100 million won (US$84,416) for children suffering economic hardship due to the new coronavirus pandemic, a charity group said Tuesday.
According to ChildFund Korea, J-hope expressed hope that his donation will be delivered to children in crisis, especially to those who are experiencing economic difficulties amid the pandemic.
J-hope has contributed 450 million won through the charity since 2018 as a member of Green Noble Club, a group of high-value donors of ChildFund Korea.
He donated 150 million in 2018 to the charity to support children with illnesses and foster talent.
In 2019, he donated 100 million won to low-income students at his old high school in Gwangju, some 330 kilometers south of Seoul, and another 100 million won to children with illnesses.
"We express our deep gratitude to J-hope, a member of worldwide act BTS, for his consistent donations as well as his remembrance of children who are economically challenged," said Lee Je-hoon, the chairman of the charity, adding his group will work hard to support children in need.
Rock singer Awie has confirmed that he is engaged to Sharifah Ladyana, who is also known as Lady.

news of his engagement broke when a photo of the woman in an engagement
outfit together with Awie's two daughters started circulating on the
internet.
Awie said:
"Yes, I am engaged and all the facts stated before this are true."
The 48-year-old added that he did not announce his engagement previously as he considered it to be a private family matter.
He said that he chose Lady, who is an AirAsia employee, as his future
wife to help with his family and added that his children had given

Kpop group JYJ’s Park Yoochun has been sued for allegedly raping a
woman in the bathroom of an 'adult entertainment establishment' on June
10.
According to Koreaboo,
the woman, Lee, who claims to have been raped by Yoochun is a
24-year-old waitress who works there. The person who submitted the legal
accusation against Yoochun was her boyfriend.
Lee’s boyfriend stated, “On the night of the 3rd, Yoochun came to the
establishment as a customer and she was forcefully raped in a bathroom
at the store.”
The boyfriend also submitted her underwear and clothes that she was
wearing at the time as evidence. The police have stated that they are
still waiting to hear the story from both sides.
Yoochun’s side have denied all allegations stating, “This is a false one sided accusation that is aimed at financial gain.”
His agency official revealed, “Even if he suffers damage to his image
we don’t want to get involved in such business. I told them (Lee’s
side) that this is the last time I’ll talk to them.”
Gangnam police have stated that they will study the evidence provided
by Lee’s side and the CCTV footage before summoning to question
Yoochun.

Recently, there was a woman named Queenie Mok, who claimed to be
Michelle Reis’ ex-assistant, who called the Hong Kong media to thank
Leon Lai for saving her life 22 years ago.
Queenie said that she travelled to Beijing with Michelle and Leon to
film a movie 22 years, and one day, she suddenly had a miscarriage. Leon
immediately rushed her to a hospital and even paid for the
hospitalisation fees.
According to Asian Pop News, Queenie
said, “I am very grateful to him. He saved my life. They were filming
that day, and I had a miscarriage in the midnight. He immediately
arranged with the hotel manager to send me to a hospital. He is a very
nice man.”
Queenie also said that her husband was working in Hong Kong at that
time, and as his travel permit had expired, he was not able to come to

Leon went to the extent of helping to resolve her husband’s travel
permit, and the next day, her husband was able to visit her in Beijing.

First, there were reports that the tickets to a Chinese variety show
which Song Joong Ki was appearing in were illegally sold at high prices.
Now, tickets for his fan meetings in China have also allegedly been sold illegally, reports Soompi.
Tickets for the Beijing fan meeting on May 14 were being sold for as
high as 6800 yuan (approximately $1425), despite the normal price being
only 1080 yuan (approximately $226).
Illegal ticket sellers have been exploiting the actor’s growing popularity in China.
Tickets were also sold at inflated prices for a conference on May 13, preceding the fan meeting.
For the morning conference, tickets were sold at 1500 yuan
(approximately $314) and for the afternoon conference, ticket resellers
were quoting 800 yuan (approximately $167).
Meanwhile, Song Joong Ki held his fan meeting in Beijing on May 14 to great success.

showed off his Chinese singing skills with the song “Long Time No See,”
